Education of Mr. Bangladesh

I have been thinking for quite a few thoughtwaves about the education we receive. Is it apt? Is it successful? Is it responsible for anything we do in life later? Does it contribute anything? Does it make us better people? Does it, or should it define us as a society?

And thus i am now on a quest (online) to look for material on the theories, methods and focuses of the educational systems of the world. I have a hunch we are missing a few elements. Also what we learn in school and what we are taught at home should also tally, in case some one tells us at home that do what you have to do in school to get the grades ... you dont have to follow it in real life. Should schools teach us to be responsible people? to be aware, socially, morally and ethically?

Too many questions for now. Everyone out there is free to email me or put in the comment box here (if you are a current blogger.com blogger) your thoughts, especially if you are from Bangladesh, I would like to know what your thoughts are about the pros and cons of our educational system? Email is at gmail.com, and the username is 'parthib'.

I studied csc and now u know what I do. Anyway...one a related issue. Have u heard about the recent education policy back home? Nothing short of ridiculous. Wonder why nobody is talking about it.

  2. salam.. i got a comment from u in my blog, so was paying a visit here.. good topic u have launched. i think i shud comment on the so-called 'education' system of BD.

sum1 said education means 'the harmonious development of body, mind and soul'
and look at our education system-what dus it develop?

look at the products of our edu sys- and they will ans u.
we may have good docs, good enggrs, good business executives-all products of our education system
but just go and find out how many 'HUMAN's do we have?!
that happens when we teach our students 3 R's- Arithmetic, Reading and Writing, but not 'Religion'

i think that was enuff of blabbering. - just MY POINT of view.. not necessary that it must be correct.
All the best. keep up with ur blog.

  4. tanm,

Once you wrote something like, if we are concerned about equality in the society let's start with education. I still believe that basic education should be equal for all. And all existing systems: English medium, Bangla medium, Kindergartens, Madrassas, and Maqtabs all should be fused together.

To tell you the truth, sometimes I do not see the necessity of institutionalised education at all. And I don't believe that it makes us better people. Just look around: doctors are corrupt, lawyers are corrupt, engineers are corrupt, the whole range of professional group is corrupt, government officials are corrupt. All of them belong to the educated class. And generations after generations, they remained corrupt. There must be something terribly wrong with our education system that it creates so many corrupt people. I don't know what but we must do something about.
